Cat On A Mat

Carpet offcuts are perfect for creating novel shaped rugs for your home.

What you will need
• Carpet offcut

• Craft knife

• Cutting board

• Large piece of paper

• Image for rug pattern

Step One

Find a shape to use as a pattern for your rug. We used an animal font that can be downloaded for free from www.dafont.com

Step Two

Transfer your pattern to a large piece of paper — this is the outline for your rug so ensure it is to the desired size. Trace onto back of carpet and cut out with a craft knife.

Step Three

Take your rug to a professional carpet binder to overlock the edges. This will cost about $15 per rug, depending on size.

Tips

Search TradeMe or carpet wholesalers for cheap offcuts. We got three rugs out of the piece we found. Old patterned carpets like Axminster can be used for a more decorative effect.
