Aesthetically pleasing and practical don't always go hand in hand, but when it comes to noticeboards make use of your favourite fabrics and you can't go wrong!

STEP ONE
Cut your MDF board to your desired size. Traditionally noticeboards are rectangular in shape, but it is up to you and the space you have available.
STEP TWO
Measure out the fabric so that it will cover the entire surface of the MDF. Cut out the fabric leaving 5 centimetres around every edge. Do the same with the Dacron.
STEP THREE
Lie pattern fabric of your choice face down onto a hard, clean surface. Place the Dacron over top of it, so that the edges match. Place the MDF board in the middle and pulling tight, fold the fabric and Dacron over the board and staple around the edges.
STEP FOUR
Turn your board over and measure out where you want your ribbon to go. Pull the ribbon tight (it should be tight enough so that paper slipped underneath it is held in place), and staple. Repeat to the desired pattern.
STEP FIVE
Hammer upholstery tacks into the cross-overs of the ribbon for a finishing touch.
STEP SIX
For fabric pockets, simply iron and fold fabric so that it creates a strip along the bottom of the board, leaving enough space from the bottom of the board for a second pocket. Staple into place and repeat. This creates a great place to store letters and bigger paper items.
